Classroom News: Monday, October 9, 2017

Just a friendly reminder that we have a crazy schedule for the next couple of weeks.
NO SCHOOL: Friday, October 13 and Monday, October 16
At school ALL DAY on Friday, October 20

Today we got more in to our Apple Unit.  We made a Circle Map that included everything we know about Apples.  From there, we made an apple page that completed the sentence Apples Are...  I've included a picture of the Circle Map at the bottom of this post.  We also watched a video of a Dr. Seuss book being read aloud.  It was 10 Apples Up On Top.  After that, we made our faces and put 10 apples with numbers on them on our heads.  These turned out great!

Some groups are seeing a change in their Orton-Gillingham reading groups.  We have focused on letters, keywords, and letter sounds, but it is time for some groups to move on.  We are working quite a bit on handwriting and forming letters correctly, we are working on what sound we hear at the beginning of a word, the end of a word, and the middle of a word.  The groups are even working on basic sight words.  So far we have learned I, a, the, so, go, no, do, to.  Today I introduced the words he, she, be, we, me, of, was, and, too.  I will send home flash cards with these words on them so you can practice at home.

On Wednesday, we will take our first Unit Test in math.  This test will focus on counting, doing dot-to-dots in order, writing numbers to 5 correctly, and shapes.

Wednesday will be a busy day!  We will also be making applesauce.  This is a super exciting project that the children always enjoy.

Trick or Treat Festival will be on Thursday, October 26.  Keep an eye out for information on how to register for that.  You will not want to miss it!  I will be here in costume waiting for the children to trick or treat past me.  I hope to see you there!

We will have a Halloween Party on Monday, October 30 from 9:20-10:30.  I have plates, napkins, sprinkles and M&Ms.  We still need Cookies, frosting, and drinks.  Let me know if you can help out.  Thank you!
