Classroom News-August 29, 2017

It has been a hectic week.  I apologize for being late posting classroom news.

NO SCHOOL
There will be no school on Monday, September 4.  It is Labor Day.  Enjoy the long weekend.

Solar Eclipse
We enjoyed the opportunity to see the solar eclipse.  We went out shortly after it started and looked at the moon start to cover the sun.  We went outside again at "totality" (which was only about 95%), and again to see the moon moving away from the sun.  As we looked at totality, one of the children said, "Its like looking into outer space!"  It sure is!  Its exactly like looking into outer space.  The comment made me smile.  Another child said she could hardly wait to go home and tell her mom and dad about how she saw the moon bump into the sun.  Well, that's not exactly what I told them, but its certainly the perspective from a kindergartner's point of view.  See pictures at the bottom of the post.

Parent Orientation
I will be holding 2 Parent Orientations.  One will be Wednesday, September 6 at 3:45 and the other will be on Friday, September 8 at 3:45 (both are right after dismissal).  I know you went to an orientation on the assessment day, but this orientation will provide more specific information about my classroom.  Please plan to attend one of these events so you have the information you need to support your child.  (Children are welcome).

Late Starts
The first Late Start will be on Wednesday, September 6.  School will start at 11:30.  We will come in and go directly to lunch.  We will dismiss at 3:40.

ALL-DAY Friday
Since we will miss school on Monday, September 4 because it is Labor Day, we will be at school ALL DAY on Friday, September 8 to make up the time we missed on Monday.  Please make a note of the schedule change.  The all-day Fridays happen several times during the school year.  Please look at the school calendar you received on the assessment day for all the dates.

Comments

  1. Is the meeting on Sept 8 during the lunch hour at 11:45? Or after 3:40 full day dismissal? Thanks.

    2. You are correct. Both parent orientations are at 3:45 immediately after dismissal. I have changed the post to reflect the correct time. Thank you for your comment!
