Classroom update-August 30, 2017

We had a terrific day today!  Our day started when our health clerk, Ana, and the district nurse, Rebecca, visited our classroom to teach us about the importance of washing our hands.  We learned that as we scrub our hands with soap, we should sing either the birthday song, or the alphabet song.  Then we can rinse our hands and use the paper towel to turn off the water.  It was exciting to hear the kids singing and using our new knowledge when we washed up for lunch!

We worked at centers in the morning which included learning about a computer keyboard and where the keys are, working on letters and sounds as well as sounding out words, letter recognition, and finding different ways to create a hexagon with pattern blocks.

After lunch we worked in our calendar notebooks and re-read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault.  It is a fun book!  We created a coconut tree like the one in the book and drew letters on it.  During social studies, we talked about the importance of rules and why it is necessary to have rules.  We sorted some pictures of kids following rules and pictures of kids not following rules.  After a brief recess, we went to the computer lab for the first time!  Everyone said they enjoyed their time in there!

We also read Anno's Counting Book by Mitsumasa Anno.  A picture changes through the book, as does the number of objects in the picture.  We had fun counting!

On Friday we will work at our centers, have recess, work in our calendar notebooks, and be ready to enjoy the long weekend!
